A three-piece set is one of the easiest ways to look put-together: a kameez, a matching or contrasting trouser, and a dupatta that finishes the outfit. Because every piece is chosen to go together, it works for office days, family visits and festive gatherings alike. Here is a simple way to choose the right one.

What is in a three-piece?

  • Kameez (top) – the main piece, usually knee-length or longer.
  • Trouser, salwar or palazzo – the bottom, in a matching or contrasting shade.
  • Dupatta – the scarf that adds colour, texture or embroidery.

1. Choose the fabric for the weather

Bangladesh is warm and humid for much of the year, so breathable fabrics such as cotton and lawn are the everyday favourites. Lighter fabrics like georgette and chiffon drape beautifully for evenings, while heavier silks and blends suit weddings and cooler months. Ask yourself where you will wear it and for how many hours.

2. Stitched or unstitched?

  • Unstitched gives you a made-to-measure fit and the freedom to pick your own cut and neckline.
  • Stitched (ready-to-wear) saves time and is ideal when you need an outfit quickly.

3. Check the fit

For a kameez, look at the shoulder seam, sleeve length and the point where it ends on the hip or thigh. For the trouser, check the waist comfort and hem length. Cotton can shrink slightly after the first wash, so leave a little room if you are stitching your own.

4. Colour and print

  • Pick one colour to lead and let the other two pieces support it.
  • A printed kameez looks best with a plain trouser; a plain kameez can carry a more detailed dupatta.
  • Lighter shades suit daytime; deeper or richer shades suit evenings.

5. Make the dupatta count

The dupatta is where a simple set becomes special. A sheer, embroidered one lifts a plain kameez — read our guide on how to style an embroidered dupatta.

Care tips

Follow the care label, wash dark colours separately the first few times, and iron embroidered pieces on the reverse side.
